KUALA LUMPUR - Former Miss World/Malaysia-turned-singer Soo Wincci said she is willing to put her career, fame and even her citizenship on the line after posting a video calling for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to step down from office. The Malaysian-born currently based in Taiwan said she wanted to use her position as a celebrity to represent the people in rejecting Najib’s administration, Malay-language news portal mStar Online reported today. “Before I uploaded the video, I already prepared myself for all the risks that may come my way. “Should my name be blocked by any media channels, I accept it,” she was quoted as saying. In the video uploaded on Sunday, Soo said she was inspired by images of the mass Bersih 4 rally here over the weekend and dedicated a previously unreleased song called “This is the Time” to the demonstrators. In the video itself she addresses the possibility of being blacklisted from returning to the country in expressing her support for the demands of Bersih 2.0.
“You have been on the stage for too long and the stage now is too crowded. Hopefully you can give us some space and please come down from the stage. Give us back some space for freedom,” she said in the video, addressing it to Najib.In the interview with mStar Online, Soo said she will continue her efforts even if her career takes a hit in her home country as a result of criticism against the government.“What I am doing is not for my own ease, but for the future generations,” she was quoted saying. - Malay mail
