AEON Plans To Open New Outlets In East Coast, Sabah And Sarawak
MELAKA, May 4 (Bernama) -- AEON Co (M) Bhd, a leading retailer with an established chain of merchandise stores, plans to spread its wing to the East Coast, Sabah and Sarawak.
Its managing director Nagahisa Oyama said there were invitations and demands to set up new shopping centres in these places as the company with 18 shopping complexes was now established in the West Coast, including the Klang Valley.
"But probably we need three or four years before we can open new stores in Sabah, Sarawak, Kuantan and the East Coast as we have to study and survey the market sentiment there," he told reporters here Tuesday after the official opening of the AEON Bandaraya Melaka Shopping Centre.
Melaka's biggest shopping centre, costing RM500 million, had opened its doors to the public on Feb 5 this year and today's opening was officiated by Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob.
The shopping complex, spread over 126,162 square metres, adopts a contemporary and cozy concept.
Oyama said AEON Bandaraya Melaka had targeted an annual turnover of RM150 million, describing the figure from business over the two months since its opening as "very encouraging".
"We have achieved 10 per cent or RM15 million sales due to the strong sentiment and customer response," he said, adding that AEON was looking at the possibility of a third outlet in the state.
The first AEON shopping mall in the state at Lebuh Ayer Keroh here was opened in 1992.
