其实我已在FLASH专区贴了同样的话题。可是总觉得移到这儿比较合适。

Silverlight是一个跨浏览器的、跨平台的插件，为网络带来下一代基于.NET的媒体体验和丰富的交互式应用程序。Silverlight提供灵活的编程模型，支持AJAX, VB, C#, Python, Ruby等语言，并集成到现有的网络应用程序中。Silverlight对运行在Mac或Windows上的主流浏览器提供高质量视频信息的快速、低成本的传递。简单来说，它是类似Flash的科技。

至于Silverlight的成果是如何，大家可以看看(www.silverlight.net/showcase)。

开发Silverlight前，必须下载及安装Visual Studio 2008, Silverlight Tools for VS 2008和Microsoft Expression Blend 2。可以到此下载。

编写Silverlight可用两种方法：Javascript(Silverlight 1) 或 Managed Code - VB, C# (Silverlight 2)。对于Silverlight 1和Silverlight 2的差别，可参考这里。至于基础教程：大家可游览 www.silverlight.net/quickstarts 。

Silverlight 2 RC终于面市。因此现在是最合适的时候开始学习Silverlight。有提问或意见的朋友，请在此多多交流。

Silverlight is subset of WPF, since it designed to bring more user interactive, but can it access local resources? I am currently develop something on Silverlight, but found that it is still too new for developer, unless you are willing to create those user controls.

嗨 eddom, 我搜索到关于Silverlight Access Local Resources的限制和Access Database的疑问。

"Due to the security constraints placed upon a Silverlight application, a Silverlight application cannot read files from the client machine unless they are stored in isolated storage. Hence, a Silverlight application is fairly limited in its capability to store data locally; however, simple files can be created for storing simple data and settings. But, files are not reliable for storing simple data as well as settings. Users will want data to be pulled and pushed and databases are the only solutions for storing data."

"Because Silverlight applications run in the browser context, they run in a sandbox and cannot access local resources directly. Developers think that Silverlight is similar to ASP.NET that can access servers and databases, but this is not so. Data access is provided through web services such as Windows Communications Foundation (WCF) or ASMX. That means you will have to create a web service to access your favorite database and then use that web service from within Silverlight to access the data or modify existing data."
