有誰是立志想成爲dive master的呢？

目前在这里想成为Dive Master的有三位；Instructor的有五位。

没有资格给你任何意见，因为我的目标没那么高，建议你找一些潜水教练来谈一谈。

请问你是不是潜水员？我有一个偏见，如果我知道我的教练是“一条龙”（从 OWD 不停考到 IDC）考上来的，我还真的有点担心给他教潜水。

加上我弟弟不爱读书，不是带他去试试看，至少还可以转职

欲把潜水当专业，不一定要当教练。如果要赚更多钱，商业潜水员才是你们应该参考的。

WHILE many others his age would be in the midst of their tertiaryeducation, Maveendren Ramadass, 21, is already an experiencedcommercial diver.
[table=200][/table]Maveendren got into this industry three years ago because of his uncle,who was formerly a commercial diver and now runs his own commercialdiving company, Westcoast Underwater Contractors.

  

As a commercial diver, Maveendren is much like an underwater "handyman"where his job scope includes underwater pipe connections, welding,burning and rigging.

The minimum requirement to be a commercialdiver is the first part of the Australian Air Diving certificate or itsequivalent.
   Maveendren hopes to embark on the third, and final, part of this qualification this year.

Companies   such as Petronas and other multinational companies  will require certification.

In Malaysia, most local freelance divers don’t need certification asthey have been working for close to 20 years. They would, however, havealready gone through the basic diving course.

Non-experienceddivers undergo a three-month course to get the air diving certificate.Experienced divers, who have logged enough diving hours, however, onlyneed a month’s training.

With the air diving qualification, youwould be able to dive the greater depths , and therefore earn a highersalary. Newly-qualified air divers would earn a minimum of US$270 aday, while experienced ones would earn more.

Diving schools,which provide certification, would also furnish students with contactsof diving companies they could apply to upon completing the divingcourse.

In Malaysia, there are no commercial diving schools, sothose wanting to enter this industry would need to go overseas fortheir qualifications.

  Another aspect of the job is its flexibility.

"You work depending on the contracts that you get. Sometimes it canstretch for up to two or three months, other times it can be just acouple of weeks."

The hazards of the job include air supplyrunning out, getting pinned under falling pipes or getting electrocutedunderwater. Another downside would be being away from home for longperiods of time if you are doing offshore jobs, which Maveendren doesmore of.

"I took up this job because I love the sea. Growing upin Port Dickson means that the sea has been a great part of my lifefrom young."

There are only about 50 freelance commercialdivers in Peninsular Malaysia and more in Sabah and Sarawak. Most airdivers freelance as opposed to being employed under one company as thisgives them the flexibility to look for work according to theirschedule.
