上个星期，跟一位冒险家谈起这个湖。。。
他告诉我说这个湖在全世界就只有两个。。。
一个在澳洲，另一个就在槟城。。。
经过调查，其实并不！
全世界共有16个混合性湖泊，亚洲占有两个，也就是黑海(Black Sea)和槟岛Pantai Keracut的Meromictic Lake了。

什么是所谓的Meromictic Lake呢？




简单来说，Meromictic Lake的特征就是，湖水的湖面是冷的，湖底却是热的。。。

听那冒险家说，他的朋友曾经一次去槟岛那个湖戏水时被烧伤。。。（我心想是不是被水母烧伤了？）

之后我就告诉他那边很多水母。。。他却告诉我说，那些不是水母而是一种类似水母的微生物，是不会烫人的，然而很多人误会说那个是水母。（曾经我和我朋友去时，朋友就是被那些所谓的无害微生物烫到的。。。）

还有最后一个想分享的，也需要大家的帮忙，分享。。。

第一次我去Meromictic Lake，是我五年前。。。那时的湖真的是很美，而且还有一些人，老外在那个湖浸水。。。
第二次我去，是在去年年底，那时的湖干枯得连底都看得到。。。
第三次我去，是在今年的年中，那时的湖也是干枯了，而且还生了一些杂草。。。

问题来了。。。那个湖，是否真的已经干枯了？
这个问题我也想那个冒险家发问，他说其实那个湖是有季节性的。。。不是每次都会有湖水。。。一年内就只有2 - 3次。。。他说，现在大概是时候了。。。

想请问，有谁在近期去那边的吗？可以来分享一下，到底那个湖还存不存在？

1）At Pantai Kerachut there is a unique meromictic lake, where there is a distinct layering of waters - the upper layer of fresh water, fed from several surrounding streams, remaining cool, while the lower layer of salt water is kept warm. About one square kilometer in size, the lake is seasonal, and is usually present from March to August. Several species of small fish and shrimps have adapted well to the unique conditions of the lake.The sandy embankment protecting it from the sea is broken down by wave action around September. During low tides and dry seasons, the lake evolves into a field of mudflats with hardy, terrestrial grass.

2）One of the special attractions of Pantai Kerachut is the meromictic lake, visible for only six months of the year. The lake has two layers of water of different temperatures. The bottom layer of sea water is normally warmer than the surface fresh water. The beach is a popular campsite.

3）The most interesting being Pantai Kerachut or Kerachut Beach. Pantai Kerachut boasts a unique & rare geographical phenomenon of a meromictic lake - the lake (or more a lagoon) is a dry mudbank during neap tides and during the dry season. A few freshwater streams feed the lagoon even in the dryest of months but essentially the lake remains dry. For only a few months a year, during spring tides, the sea enters a small inlet and saltwater fills the lake. The saltwater that comes in meets the freshwater that flows in from a few mountain streams but the 2 do not fully mix homogenously like a normal brackish mangrove ecosystem. Instead the salt water (being denser) occupies the lower layer and the freshwater upper layers of the lake maintaining sort of a density gradient. This ecosystem is unique and its' inhabitants have adapted to this quite well. Mudskippers, fiddler crabs, glass fishes, panchanx (Killifishes) can be found in the meromictic lake. Further upstream into the jungle fringe, where the water is less salty, there are zebra danios, guppies and other jungle barbs.

4）A unique natural lake which is 1 sq. km in size, resulting from seasonal phenomenon of wind, tidal action and sedimentation from wave action, at certain time of the year the river mouth (a 2 metre wide opening) will be blocked by sandbank resulting in fresh river water getting trapped within and seawater seeps through the sandbank and fill the inland area slowly.
The two layers of fresh and seawater never mix, the cool fresh water stays at the top and the warm seawater stays at the bottom, hence the name meromictic. When the combination of rain, wind, tidal and wave condition is right, it breaks the sand embankment, water will flow out rapidly through the river mouth into the sea and in no time the same area becomes a field of mudflats, with hardy, terrestrial grass.
To survive, animals and plants living in and around the lake must adapt to its changing conditions, several species of crabs, fish and prawns breed well in these waters.
Lichens flourish on branches of shrubby trees.

就在Pantai Keracut。。。Penang National Park ( The Smallest National Park)。。
可以从南方或北方出发。。。
北方出发可以在End of the World，通过爬山或乘船
南方出发的话，目前我所知道的事一定要乘船。到Pantai Acheh那边乘
是槟城人，真的一定要去看看。
