Russell Index Additions See Upside Action On Reconstitution

A number of small cap and micro cap stocks that are expected to be added to the Russell Index are seeing upside action today. Russell has already released their preliminary list of addition to the Russell 3000®, Russell 1000®, Russell 2000®, Russell Global, Russell Midcap® and Russell Microcap. Official inclusion is planned to occur when Russell reconstitutes its set of U.S. and global equity indexes today. The final membership list will be published June 29, 2009.
The Russell indexes are widely used by investment managers and institutional investors for index funds and as benchmarks for both passive and active investment strategies. $4 trillion in assets are currently benchmarked to them.

HEB - Poised to be the next DNDN

Before we start, just to point out that both charts above are the same chart. The first one is just a zoomed in version of the one below it.
This past week was a very interesting week for HEB, and for the overall market as well. You can check the overall market analysis by clicking here.
Now, with regards to HEB, what really happened this week?
Monday And Tuesday HEB sold off with the broad market. No negative news really came out that would have caused any reason for the sell-off other than the general market sentiment. The interesting things to note as a result of this sell-off were the closing prices on Monday And Tuesday (this was all discussed on the June 23rd update below).
Once Wednesday came around, much like the sell-off on Monday and Tuesday, no real news came out to lead the bulls aside from the general market rally following the slight pullback. The only other news was Fridays listing of HEB on the Russell 3000 (which is probably why we saw such a significant spike in the last 5 minutes of trading on Friday (short sellers closing their positions).
On Tuesday HEB closed on the 61.8% fib retracement which also happened to be a well formed support line. Wednesday opened with a slight gap down, and lead to the beginning of a new uptrend. Thursday closed on the 50% retracement line, and Friday closed just short of the 38.2% retracement line. Bottom line, this past week was a very volatile week for this stock as well as the overall market. However, even with all this volatility, the bounces and closes were very predictable.
What are the Technicals saying for next week?
There are several important points to look at as far as HEBs Technicals are concerened. I have labeled them on the chart in chronological order in order to make it easier to follow.
1) The move day By day (PPS).
This was discussed above, but just to go in to a little bit more detail; As you can see, Tusdays sell off forced the pps below the 30 day EMA and SMA (exponential and simple moving averages), but as Thursday came around, HEB crossed them again in a bullish move.
2) Volume
Fridays volume started to increase for the first time since the big sell-off from the mid $4 range as a result of Adam F's article on thestreet.com. If this continues, as it should, we can expect to see volume on the rise through the first half of the upcoming week.
3 and 4) The Stochastics
The Stochastics are showing signs of strength following the second half of the week. However, this could be a false signal as shown with #3. I however like to believe that we will be seeing some more positive action this upcoming week as several signals are pointing that way.
5) The Moving Averages
As you can see here, the moving averages are starting to converge again. If we see the stock rise to the 38.2% fib, we will see a corresponding buy signal here. This should push the stock above that fib resistance point. When we cross that, there will be nowhere to go but up (barring any negative catalysts such as FDA rejection or thetreet.com coming in for another bashing session).
What should we expect for the upcoming week?
As far as I am concerned, we should see another bullish week in HEB. I do sense a slight bounce off the 38.2% fib, but I do believe we will get through it and move on towards our most recent highs of mid 4s. I believe that once we pass that 38.2% fib mark, we will be steadily climbing to that $4 mark again. |
