Pau-werful attraction

KUALA SELANGOR: Tee Ah Yoke’s vegetarian buns (pau) are not only drawing Chinese customers,
but Muslims who buy them for buka puasa as well. Muslims are known to pop over to the shop after maghrib prayers to have a cuppa to go with the buns and woo kok (yam puff) or tar pau
(take away) the treats for families back home. Residents here have no qualms consuming
the pork-free food because they trust the 58-year-old Tee. Mohd Din Sarman, 92,
has been Tee’s customer for ages.
 | I want those: Mohd Din showing Tee the pau he wants as L. Vimala, 27, waits for her turn to buy the famous vegetable pau from Tee’s shop in Jeram, Kuala Selangor.

“I know him well. He serves pork-free food in his shop and the kitchen is clean.
“I have been patronising his shop since the time his father-in-law started the business
from a wooden shop many years ago.
“He expanded the business and now has a nice shoplot. But the pau are still delicious,”
said the retired contractor who was buying some pau for buka puasa.
Tee said: “I am happy to see folks of all races enjoying my pau.
All my pau are handmade and chemical-free.
I also get a Pak Haji to slaughter the chicken as filling for the woo kok.
“It is so nice to see customers tucking in my pau without any reservation.
Business is not just about making money. You should also care for your customers.”
Besides the normal customers, busloads of tourists heading for the famous firefly colony or seafood restaurants would stop at Tee’s shop.
“More importantly, I have the two 'old golds' with me.
They are my 92-year-old father and my 90-year-old father-in-law.
They get loving attention from my wife,” he quipped.
