QPR supremo has big plans
Rangers duo outline plans to make club a Premier League force

Queens Park Rangers chairman Tony Fernandes has outlined his plans to build new facilities at the club and has identified a site for a new training ground.

The Malaysian businessman assumed control of the West London club before the August transfer deadline which allowed QPR to bring in six new players before the close of the window.

However, he plans to overhaul all the facilities at the club so that they can compete with their rivals both on and off the field of play.

"We have made some good decisions in terms of training facilities," he said.

Facilities

"It is something I need to take on board. We need better facilities and I think we have found somewhere."

The comments of the Rangers supremo seem to echo those of the club's chief executive officer Philip Beard, who had suggested they would have to move away from their current training base.

Rangers currently train at Harlington - the Imperial College-owned site - where they have been for the last six years after Chelsea left there to move to their state-of-the-art facility in Cobham.

"I think we have got to look at ourselves as a Premier league club," Beard added.

Future

"Hopefully for the foreseeable future that is the case and because of that I think we have to look at the facilities and everything we do at the club.

"The reality is that the playing squad spend most of their time at the training facility and at the moment we rent Harlington, which isn't as good as a lot of the other Premier League facilities.

"We're looking at everything at the club and my aim is to look across at other Premier League clubs and feel we are comparable in all aspects of business.

"Both on the pitch and off the pitch, a club that can match most other clubs in the Premier League."
