http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/5312020.stm
An Airbus A380 super-jumbo has landed back in southern France to complete its first test flight with passengers.
With 474 Airbus staff filling seats in first, business and economy class, they tested everything from the plane's televisions to its toilets.
The seven-hour flight is due to be the first of four this week designed to check all the A380's on-board services.
Airbus also said that it was replacing the head of the A380 project, which has been hit by delay problems.
It said Charles Champion is to be replaced by Mario Heinen, the current boss of the A320 plane.
'Human feedback'
A total of 1,900 Airbus employees have been selected for this week's test flights.
The A380 has two full floors of seating
Their names were picked at random from the 15,000 staff who applied for the mission from Airbus offices around the world.
"These four test flights with real passengers will give us human feedback on life on board this plane which can do distances of up to 15,000 kilometres [9,300 miles]," said chief test pilot Jacques Rosay.
Mr Champion's departure is the latest problem to befall the A380 programme since it was announced in June that the first deliveries would be delayed by six months because of a problem with the plane's wiring.
The delay has already led to the resignation of former Airbus chief executive Gustav Humbert.
It also contributed to the departure of Noel Forgeard, the then co-chief executive of Airbus' main parent company EADS.
Mr Forgeard departed after he was accused deliberately selling EADS shares before the delays to the A380 were announced to the markets, something he denies.
Possible sale
The first deliveries of the A380 will be made in December to Singapore Airlines.
So far 16 airlines have ordered 159 of the aircraft.
Airbus employs a total of 57,000 people around the globe.
In the UK it has a workforce of 13,000 people who design and build the wings for its planes across two main sites - Broughton in north Wales and Filton near Bristol.
While EADS owns 80% of Airbus, the other 20% stake is currently in the hands of UK defence and aerospace group BAE Systems.
However, BAE Systems is currently exploring a possible sale of its share in Airbus. |

英国航太公司(BAE)脱售空中巴士股权
英国航太将会脱售手中的空中巴士20%股权,总值18亿。
BAE agrees to £1.87bn Airbus sale
BAE Systems says Airbus faces a challenging future
A380 test flight
UK-based defence firm BAE Systems has agreed to sell its 20% stake in plane maker Airbus to EADS for 2.75bn euros (£1.87bn; $3.53bn).
BAE estimates the sale will generate about £1.2bn net, allowing it to return about £500m to shareholders.
If shareholders agree to the deal, pan-European EADS, which owns 80% of Airbus, will own the firm outright.
The 13,000 Airbus workers in the UK - where the planes' wings are built - are not thought to be affected by the deal.
"The board believes that Airbus is facing a challenging short to medium-term outlook," BAE said.
The firm can sell its 20% stake after a 2001 deal it signed with Franco-German EADS.
BAE's decision comes after an independent audit by Rothschild, which valued Toulouse-based Airbus at £1.9bn.
BAE said it thought "a significant amount of management focus, time and investment would be required to address the issues currently facing Airbus".
The company said if the sale does not go ahead "it may be necessary to retain BAE Systems' interest in Airbus for an extended period to be confident that it could be sold for materially more than [the current price]"
Reports have suggested BAE had hoped to earn more by selling its share in Airbus.
Back in April BAE Systems first said it was thinking of withdrawing from the pan-European aircraft-maker.
But when BAE and EADS failed to reach agreement on a price for the sale, Rothschild was engaged to value Airbus.
Since then however, Airbus has seen development of its new Airbus A380 super-jumbo suffer delays.
Shares in BAE fell 0.92% to 377.5 pence while shares in EADS dropped 1.13% to 22.79 euros.
The deal remains to be approved by BAE shareholders.

Gustav Humbert已经因为A380的事情辞职了,刚上任的Christian Streiff希望能为Airbus带来好转。
A380 Early Long Flight Series near completion
8 September 2006
A380 MSN2 took off from Toulouse-Blagnac (southern France), for the fourth and last of the planned Early Long Flights this morning at 7 a.m. for a 15-hour flight. Once completed, the total distance flown by the A380 during these four flights will be equivalent to a little more than one trip around the world. All four flights were performed out of Toulouse.
The series of four "ELF" passenger flights was launched on Monday 4 September, when it started with a seven-hour flight, followed on Tuesday the 5th by a ten-hour flight. In the night of Wednesday the 6th to Thursday the 7th a night flight of 12 hours was performed, to be followed by today's 15-hour flight. All four flights went extremely smoothly, the aircraft operating as expected. Passengers - all Airbus employees - totalled 1,900. All have been asked to fully test the cabin and cabin systems so as to ensure the aircraft's maturity and excellent operational standards at entry into service.
"The flights have all gone very well and it has been a real pleasure to fly Airbus employees for their first trip on the A380," said Claude Lelaie, Head of Airbus Flight Operations. "Despite the cabins being almost totally full, what was most striking was the impression of spaciousness. Another striking feature is its outstanding quietness," he added.
Passengers were asked to fill in a questionnaire giving their impressions on cabin systems including air conditioning, lighting, acoustics, in-flight entertainment (IFE), galleys, electrics, toilets and water waste systems. Comments were globally extremely positive. The aircraft was configured in three classes in order to test different cabin layout options and seat arrangements. The flights were operated in standard airline conditions.
Average cruise speed during the flights was at 0.85 mach (850 km/h). During the flights, the aircraft also reached its cruising ceiling of 43,000 feet/13,106 meters. Overall, the four flights will have totaled 41,750 km in distance of a little more than one trip around the world. After today's flight has landed, the A380 test programme will have reached 2,000 flight hours in 616 flights since the first flight on 27 April 2005.
With 159 firm orders from a total of 16 customers, the Airbus A380 is already a proven success story and set to become the flagship commercial aircraft of the 21st Century.
Headquartered in Toulouse, France, Airbus is an EADS joint company with BAE Systems. |
