All uncountable nouns are singular = 所有不可数名词都是单数的。
singular 在这里是形容词,不是“单数名词”,别弄错了。
这句话的意思是:不可数名词,如 water, honesty, time。。, 出现时,我们必须把它 ...
你该去查一下词典 singular 是什么定义:
a singularnoun, verb, form etc is used when writing or speaking about one person or thing (LONGMAN)
既然是不可数了,还怎么是单数/一个?不可数的东西可以说“one person or thing”吗?
如果不可数名词都是单数,那你那些例子的不可数名词是不是得加个 a/an,想单数名词一样:
Honesty is the best policy.
=> An honesty is the best policy.
Time flies.
=> A time flies.
是这样吗?
如果不可数名词和单数名词可以等同,这些语法你如何处理?
懂了吗?

这是Collins Cobuild English Dictionary 列出的定义:
Singular
1. adjective (单数的) The singular form of a word is the form that is used when referring to one person or thing.
The word 'you' can be singular or plural. (例句)
2. singular noun (名词的)单数形式 The singular of a noun is the form of it that is used to refer to one person or thing.
The singular of Inuit is Inuk. [+ of] (例句)
【注意:使用第二个定义时,singular 需和the 一起使用: the singular (of)】
【注意:中文意思取自‘金山词霸’在线字典】

除了具有‘单数的’属性,不可数名词(uncountable noun)也具有’不能算‘的特性,所以当然不能在前面加 a, an,也不能在这类名词后面加s。就算是中文,我们也不会说成 '一个水’ 吧?
Uncountable nounsUncountable nouns are for the things that we cannot count with numbers. They may be the names for abstract ideas or qualities or for physical objects that are too small or too amorphous to be counted (liquids, powders, gases, etc.). Uncountable nouns are used with a singular verb. They usually do not have a plural form. (Source: http://www.ef.com/english-resour ... -uncountable-nouns/)

还有看到一个例句也误导学生,
a juice, an apple juice, a coke, a coffee 哪错了?
I want a coffee; One orange juice, please; 这么说错了?
’a juice‘ 这个说法在口语上可以这样讲,但基本上正式用法上juice 还是个uncountable noun (请参考Oxford, Collins Cobuild Dictionary), 所以'a glass of juice'会比较正式。
我强调过,短片强调的是简单明了,如果再加上许多例外的例子,将使学生无所适从。
如 water, 总所周知是个uncountable noun,其实也有一个可以当成可数名词的意思:水域
e.g. A number of governments banned the ship from their territorial waters. (源自Collins Cobuild)
