KLANG: An unemployed youth reportedly abducted in retaliation for an insensitive Facebook posting by controversial sex bloggers Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee has denied that his predicament was connected to religious comments made by the duo.
Instead, Ng Mun Tatt said his abductors had kidnapped him for the sole reason of extorting money from his family.
Ng, who claimed to have just returned to Shah Alam from Johor Bahru about two months ago, said his abductors had not mentioned a word about him insulting the religion, nor had he made any such posting.
"I do have a Facebook account but the only post I made was about my haircut," Ng said at a press conference here Wednesday, adding that he was not very well versed in the English or Malay language.
News reports said Ng was abducted and had graffiti written on his body Monday in revenge, after controversial bloggers Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee uploaded a photo on their Facebook page of them eating bak kut teh (a pork dish) and at the same time putting up a Selamat Berbuka Puasa (breaking of fast for Muslims) greeting.
The reports also said the abductors stripped Ng and took him to a wooded area before assaulting him using their hands and thick wooden sticks.
Ng told reporters he did not know who his abductors were, adding that he did not even know where he was taken during his five-hour ordeal as he was blindfolded.
"It was not about any (Facebook) posting. They (kidnappers) only wanted money and purposely wrote Saya Hina Agama Islam (I insulted Islam) on my body because they did not want me to escape when I was in their custody, saying that I would be beaten up by any Muslim if I planned to get away," he said.
Ng said he was having a meal with his girlfriend around 4.30am when eight men walked up to him from behind and pulled him away by his shoulders.
"They told my friends and me to not make a move and took me away," he said, adding that he only vaguely remembered what transpired next.
"I was drugged, blindfolded, assaulted and did not know where I was being taken.
"I remember them asking my brother-in law for my bank pin number and the next thing I remember was waking up naked in an estate at about 10am with the words on my body," said Ng, who was badly bruised.
He said he then ran out from the estate where a motorcyclist along the Duke Highway took him to a police station.
Ng's brother-in law, Mak Nui Weng, 28, who was also present at the press conference, said the abductors had asked for RM5,000.
"They demanded that I transfer the money immediately. I managed to deposit RM3,000 into Ng's account at about 8am. But thank God, they did not kill him," Mak said, adding that the money deposited was withdrawn by the abductors.
Shah Alam OCPD ACP Zahedi Ayob said police were investigating the case.
A source, meanwhile, said the four suspects who were arrested a few hours after the incident have been remanded for a week.
