Eating Right

Practicing yoga does not mean that you need to have a strict nutritional guideline to follow. However, it is beneficial for you if you practice a healthy eating habit. Here are some ways how you can improve your eating habits for a healthier lifestyle!

According to the Ayurvedic tradition, Sattvic (also known as pure) foods are light and easy to digest foods that will make you feel energetic, calm, and happy. These foods are beneficial to the mind and body and it also boosts your physical and mental capabilities. Sattvic food includes fruits and vegetables, butter, yoghurt, cereal, milk, cream, nuts, rice, grains, honey, and lentils.

On the other hand, salty and spicy foods (Rajasic), are deemed to make you feel restless and agitated which could cause emotional imbalance if you eat too much of these stimulating foods.

Furthermore, overeating on heavy foods (Tamasic) such as onion, garlic, and red meat could make you feel depressed and sleepy.

Most of you would think what is difference between the Ayurvedic tradition and a normal healthy nutritional diet? Well, there is no difference. Similarly, a nutritional diet coach will advise you to eat more fresh foods, reduce the amount of salt and sugar, and avoid drinking alcohol.

Ultimately, you are the judge of what is best for your own body. Just remember that practicing healthy eating habits does not mean skimping on eating meat. Instead, it is advisable to eat the right portions that you need to feel full. Feel free to experiment what eating habits best suit your lifestyle!

Until then,
