QPR snap up £4m Cisse
QPR have completed the signing of Lazio striker Djibril Cisse for a fee believed to be around £4.18million.
The 30-year-old former Liverpool and Sunderland player has returned to England on a two-and-a-half-year deal.
Cisse has been registered in time to make his QPR debut at Aston Villa on Wednesday night, subject to international clearance being received one hour before kick-off.
"I rate Djibril very, very highly," R's manager Mark Hughes told the club's official website.
"I've watched him for many years and always been impressed by what he brings to the table.
"He's a huge threat to oppositions' defences. He's got great pace, power and movement and that's something we will hopefully benefit from."
He added: "His goal record is there for everyone to see. He's scored goals wherever he's played. His record speaks for itself.
"He was desperate to come here once we showed our interest in him and we can't wait to get the best out of him."
Cisse only joined Lazio in the summer after a successful spell in Greece with Panathinaikos.
The Arles-born striker struggled for form in Italy, although he believes he can make an impact in west London.
"QPR have a hugely ambitious project," said Cisse, who will wear the number 23 shirt.
"When I talked to the manager, he spoke highly of the club and where he wants to take it over the next few years.
"He wanted to sign me at Manchester City and now I am finally here with him at QPR.
"He wants to achieve big things here - that was all I needed to hear from him."
He added: "I have unfinished business here in England.
"The English league is the best in the world. It is the league that suits me the most.
"I'm really happy to be here and I can't wait to repay the club's confidence in me, to get back to where I want to be as a player.
"I will always give 100% and I can't wait to start playing games."
Earlier this afternoon, Cisse, who had three years left in his contract with the Roman outfit, bade farewell to Lazio fans.
"I want to thank all the Lazio fans for their affection and support," Cisse said on his twitter account. "All the people that in the past few months I have met.
"I am sorry that in these past months I have not achieved the expectations that some of them had, but I've always given 100%."
Cisse becomes Hughes' fourth signing since taking over as QPR manager from Neil Warnock following the arrivals of Samba Diakite, Taye Taiwo and Nedum Onuoha.
Manchester United striker Federico Macheda arrived on loan earlier this month during Warnock's reign. |

QPR have swooped late on deadline day to bring Bobby Zamora to Loftus Road from Fulham, after the two Clubs agreed an undisclosed fee for his services.
The England international striker has penned a two-and-a-half year deal in W12 and links up again with his former Cottagers boss Mark Hughes.
The 31 year-old's arrival follows hot on the heels of the addition of Djibril Cisse, but unlike his new team-mate, the Three Lions ace won't be eligible to feature against Aston Villa on Wednesday night.
A delighted Hughes told www.qpr.co.uk: "Bobby is a guy that makes things happen on the pitch, be it scoring goals or creating chances for others.
"He's a great foil for any team.
"We needed a player of his ilk at the Football Club and I couldn't be more delighted."
Hughes added: "He was the difference for us at Fulham last season.
"He came back from injury and he made such an impact in the second half of the campaign.
"He's got great power and pace and his technical ability is top class. He's got an excellent left foot."
Zamora, who made his England debut against Hungary in August 2010 and has seven goals to his name already this term, can't wait to kick-start the next chapter of his career at Loftus Road, commenting: "QPR are certainly a Club that are looking to go forward. That's something that I'm looking forward to being a part of.
"I got on really well with the Manager at Fulham. We all grew to like Mark. I think that will be the case here. He's looking to take the Club forward.
"I think this was the right time for me to have a fresh challenge. I had some great experiences at Fulham. Going to a European final is special.
"But this is a new challenge for myself and I'm thoroughly looking forward to it."
Zamora added: "The ambition of the Club was certainly a drawing factor as well.
"I've been lucky enough to speak to Tony (Fernandes) and Phil's (Beard) relayed a lot of messages about where this Club want to go.
"For me, it was quite an easy decision to be a part of this.
"The sky's the limit. We're looking to go forward and to grow and I want to be a part of that."
Zamora will wear squad number 52. |
